2022 was the first year New Zealand celebrated Matariki with a public holiday.  Celebrations took place around the country bringing a large amount of attention to the meaning of this important phase in the Maori calendar.

Several Matariki events were held in Avondale.  The Avondale Business Association worked in collaboration with New Lynn Community Hub and several local groups to put on a truly Avondale evening at the Community Centre and surrounding venues.  Here's some of our favourite pics:
