Do toys fall out when you open the cupboard?
Overflowing cupboards was just one of the motivators for local business owner, Tristan Marris to begin TraderKidz with his children, Jett (8) and Cooper (9).
At Traderkidz.co.nz, you can buy and sell pre-loved toys games, puzzles, books, clothes, computer devices and games, lego, models, collectibles, sports gear, bikes, and musical instruments. There’s even a section for babies & infants, and a space to sell unwanted fruit - which comes in handy for our garden suburb.
Since launching just a few weeks ago, Traderkidz has had close to 150 families log on to buy and sell. A unique feature on the site allows you to sell any product for free – nice! And also, proceeds from the site are donated to charity.
Outside of Dad-time, Tristan runs “Colony – Space to Work” at 1790 Great North Road (behind the ex-Barbarino’s), a creative shared space that is currently going gangbusters and expanding to create 30 more desks. An IT entrepreneur, he also co-developed online business management software, RollHQ.com.
“We built Traderkidz so our kids could sell unwanted toys, while teaching them about websites, financial intelligence and how business works,” says Tristan.
While Tristan put the website together, the kids run the entire sales process from photographing toys to sending couriers and organising pick ups. It’s a user-friendly site that all kids can be a part of - a win, win.
Now all Jett and Cooper have to do is figure out how to spend their new found pocket-money.
